Stages of Pelvic Exam
The pelvic exam has three stages:
* Bimanual examination. The doctor puts on latex gloves and use both hands to locate and examine the organs. Apply a lubricant gel in one or two fingers and inserted into the vagina. Keep your other hand on the lower abdomen of the patient, pressing down with his hand on the abdomen, and upward with the fingers located inside.
* Review instrumented. Using the speculum. The mirror is lubricated and inserted into the vagina. Then open the paddles to discover the walls of the uterus and cervical canal.
* Evaluation recto-vaginal. The doctor returns to lubricate one or two fingers inserted into the vagina. Simultaneously introduces a finger on the other hand in the rectum.
The duration of the assessment depends on the technique used, the results of the review and the thoroughness with which the doctor to examine the organs.
