Radiation Therapy

It is mainly applied in a number of treatment sessions per day Monday through Friday, leaving the patient to rest on weekends and holidays. Although the duration of each session depends on each case and the time of different machines, usually last for two to six weeks. The sessions usually last about 20 minutes in which the patient stays in the room only to prevent radiation from spreading. We need to stay calm and not move, so that the radioactivity is directed precisely to the area being treated. At all times be supervised by a CCTV and there is always someone listening outside the room, so if you have a problem you can report it immediately.
The rationale for radiation therapy sessions is to give more time to recover healthy cells and cause the least damage possible. The number of cycles you receive depends on many factors including overall health status, location and the stage where the tumor is and whether it had received another treatment such as chemotherapy or surgery. In fact, certain tumors require more than one meeting per day to increase efficiency and reduce the maximum potential side effects.
Types Of Radiation

HOW IT WORKS
Depending on how we can apply two types of radiation:
* INTERNAL RADIATION THERAPY:
Used mainly in tumors of the head, neck, cervix, uterus, prostate and skin. This treatment can be administered in two different ways: by inserting radioactive material into needle-shaped, fork, seed, etc.. near the tumor itself or within a limited period of time (brachytherapy). Radioactive devices are inserted into the patient’s own body with a simple surgical procedure during which ‘implanted’ radioactive material (iridium, cesium, iodine …) as close to the tumor.
If you are receiving internal radiation therapy have to stay in the hospital a few days and will need to take some special measures while the radioactive material is in your body. The most important thing is to have any problem or doubt see your doctor, he informed of the measures to be taken according to their case.
At the end of the treatment is in no danger of “contaminating” their neighbors or relatives by exposure to radiation energy. In any case radiation is ‘infected’ or would become ‘radioactive material’.
* GRAPHIC
Teletherapy or external radiation therapy. They are applied using a series of similar devices to large X-ray machines (electron accelerator and cobalt bomb). directing radiation energy to the affected area. This region is marked with paint or dyes previously, tattoo specialists key points to indicate the exact location of the tumor disappear, if these brands do not try to replace them yourself. The remaining body parts are protected with lead blocks to avoid receiving unnecessary radiation.
