For mature skin and acne. Along with the peel and laser, microdermabrasion is one of the techniques defendants in such cases. Now, a new study, published in Archives of Dermatology ‘, confirms that this procedure is effective because of its ability to stimulate cell regeneration.

A team of scientists from the University of Michigan (USA) has observed that not only increases microdermabrasion precursors of collagen, other components associated with cell renewal. For example, cytokeratin 16 (with an important role in the wounds of the upper layers of the skin), antimicrobial peptides (which fight infection) and matrix metalloproteinases (inactivate enzymes that damage the skin).

This is what makes technique improves the appearance of wrinkles, acne marks, depigmentation and other signs of aging skin through cell renewal occurs.

The novelty is that, until now, it was thought that this effect (facial rejuvenation) was because the outer layer of skin was removed, but also because it stimulates collagen production [responsible for the elasticity of skin].

In fact, research experts have discovered that what is stimulated by this procedure is the induction of collagen type I and III. Not all interested collagens. It is not advisable to induce scar, regenerating them.

Have shown that a process is effective in promoting collagen production and improve the appearance of mature skin, especially if coarse particles.

A roller eroding layer by layer

Karimipour biopsy samples before and after performing microdermabrasion, a technique that involves a kind of roller that spins and erodes the skin layer by layer of skin. This requires the help of some particles (called micro-crystals) that can be of different materials. The most commonly used today are aluminum oxide and diamond.

This study involved 40 adult volunteers whose ages ranged between 50 and 83 years. All underwent the same technique with diamond tips, but some with larger particles (more aggressive) and thinner. Given that in recent molecular changes were not recorded, our conclusions refer only to microdermabrasion is performed with diamond tips of a certain size.

Currently, microdermabrasion is used to improve the appearance of the skin, smoothing fine wrinkles, remove superficial acne scars, as a prelude to a peel (to double the effect) … But it is certain that what we now apply the laser itself is split.

The Spanish dermatologist, also highlights the role of this laser. Penetrates the skin only by installments, namely, small microscopic areas of a similar diameter of a hair. This will allow the regeneration of the skin, with the appearance within 24 hours of new tissue that will take the place of the old tissue . At the same time, it stimulates the production of new collagen that contribute to skin rejuvenation.
